Capitan, a loyal German shepherd, has been guarding the grave of his deceased owner for six years now. Despite his owner’s passing in 2006, Capitan’s loyalty remains unwavering as he keeps watch over the owner’s final resting place. The family of Miguel Guzman discovered the dog near the grave a week after his death, and Capitan has been there ever since.
In 2005, Miguel Guzman adopted Capitan as a present for his son, Damian. However, the dog has been guarding Miguel’s grave for the last six years. Capitan rarely leaves the family’s property as reported by them. His widow, Veronica Guzman, shared that they searched for him initially when he went missing, but they eventually thought he had died due to a car accident.
On the following Sunday, we revisited the burial ground, and Damian spotted his beloved pet. Capitan rushed towards us, yelping and howling as if he was in agony. Veronica mentioned that they had never brought Capitan to the cemetery earlier, which adds to the already complex situation. She also expressed her bewilderment about how Capitan managed to locate that particular spot.
The director of the cemetery, Hector Baccega, has taken up the responsibility of feeding and looking after Capitan, a loyal dog who found his way to his owner’s grave. Baccega says that the dog appeared at the cemetery one day and started exploring until he reached his master’s tomb. Despite roaming around the premises during the day, Capitan always returns to the grave and spends every night on top of it at precisely 6 pm.
Despite the passing of his owner, Capitan, the loyal dog has not been forgotten by the Guzman family. Damian, a member of the family, shared that they have made several attempts to bring Capitan back home, but to no avail. Capitan seems to have made his own decision to stay by his owner’s side at the cemetery.
In my opinion, he’ll remain there for the rest of his life too. The reason being, he’s taking care of my dad as mentioned by him.
